About MECH Department

Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2009 and offers B.E program in Mechanical Engineering with an intake of 180 seats.  Our Department   is dedicated  to create a research hub engaged in contemporary research in association with industries and other reputed institutions, impart best-of-class education to students with up-to-date curriculum and content in tune with industry requirements and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among students to enable a few to launch their own ventures.

The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members with a rich blend of teaching, research and industrial experience. The faculty members are actively engaged in research and constantly publish papers in International and National Journals. The department regularly organizes technical workshops for the faculty members to expose them to emerging areas. The department has state of the art facilities for various laboratories, classrooms to support e-learning in addition to a department library. Guest lectures and industrial visits are periodically arranged for the students to supplement their curriculum. We strive for all round excellence in students, encouraging them in all extra-curricular activities.

Engineering Graduates will be able to

1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

CAD/CAM LABORATORY

  • A highly configured air-conditioned CAD laboratory is equipped with higher-end computers and modeling packages viz., CATIA V6, PTC – CREO 2.0, SOLIDWORKS and analysis packages such as ANSYS helps students to promote their creative ability and to enlighten the future designs in mechanical components/systems.
  • The mission is to provide high quality education and research with a focus on programming skills and logical thinking development among students.
  • To enhance students to concentrate on advanced Manufacturing processes by applying their knowledge with the help of CAM Software’s and CNC Machines.

DYNAMICS LABORATORY

  • The laboratory is providing valuable insights for performing vibration measurement, testing, and analysis, as well as dynamic controller design for both teaching and research purposes. A simple and an expanded model of dynamics in lotic environments are described and hand on experiment are carried out in each class for technical upliftment of students
  • Objective of this laboratory is to demonstrate the principles of dynamics of machinery and the measuring devices for dynamic testing purpose

ENGINEERING PRACTICES LABORATORY

  • The objective of this lab is to supplement the practical knowledge gained in basic engineering works in day to day life and to provide exposure to the students with hands on experience on various basic engineering practices in Civil and Mechanical. In this lab, the experiments are performed to weld two metal pieces, joining of various carpentary joints, connect different pipes and pipe joints, different sheet metal operations, basic lathe works and drilling.
  • This lab is for mechanical first Year students with all facilities to carry out experiments.

FLUID MECHANICS AND MACHINERY LABORATORY

  • This lab is run in conjunction with the theory course CE6451- Fluid Mechanics & Machinery. The scope of the laboratory is to carry out introductory research involving fluid mechanics. It is a preliminary course where fluid properties, flow behaviour, losses in pipes, etc. are analyzed. This lab is equipped with different flow measuring set-ups, pumps and turbines. This is where the students can visualize the basic theory of working of the flow meter and understand the characteristic performance of pumps and turbines.

MECHATRONICS LABORATORY

  • This lab focuses on creating practical engineering solutions by integrating sensors and microcontrollers in to military and medical applications.
  • The laboratory endeavors to move to the higher level of technological standing and it provides the students and researchers with state-of-the-art facilities to conduct interdisciplinary research in nanotechnology, mechanical design, robotics, mechatronics, control, automation, and computational intelligence.

METROLOGY AND MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY

  • The purpose of this laboratory is; to familiarize students with laboratory measuring devices, to study the measurements methods, to learn proper measuring techniques through simple measurements of mass, length, and time, and to learn to express the results of calculations so as to correctly reflect the effects of measurement uncertainty.

MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY

  • This lab aims at providing the students with practical hands on exposure about the various metal cutting operations, using the conventional machine tools. This course is to give a broad understanding of conventional and non-conventional machining processes with an emphasis on the characterization techniques. This course also familiarizes students with the scientific principles governing various machining processes. Manufacturing Technology Lab chiefly encompasses Centre Lathe, Capstan Lathe, Turret Lathe, Plastic Injection Moulding, Gear cutting, Milling, Shaping, Planning, Slotting, Drilling and Grinding processes of Plastics.

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS LABORATORY

  • The objective of this lab is to supplement the theoretical knowledge gained in Strength of Materials with practical testing for determining the strength of materials through a series of experiments. In this lab the experiments are performed to measure the properties of the materials such as tensile strength, compressive strength, hardness, and impact strength etc. This would enable the student to have a clear understanding of the design for strength and stiffness.
  • This lab is for mechanical 2rd Year students with facilities for the group of 60 students to carry out experiments.

THERMAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY - 1

  • Thermal engineering is a branch of science that covers energy conversion from one form to another, working of IC engines, modes of Heat transfer, principles of refrigeration and air conditioning etc. The field of thermal engineering includes a lot of applications that can be classified as the combination of thermodynamics and heat transfer, such as IC engines, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The objective of this laboratory is to provide the student a good environment to understand some very important concepts and applications in the field of IC engines and Steam Power Plant. These concepts are necessary to understand how the typical thermal devices work (refrigerators, air conditioning devices, car engines or steam engines). These fundamentals will be used to link the phenomenological processes taking place in the engine for issues of: power generation, emissions and environmental impact, fuel economy and fuel composition effects on engine operation and mechanical limitations of obtaining ideal performance.

THERMAL LAB – II (HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER LAB)

The Thermal Lab – II (Heat and Mass Transfer Lab) is to reinforce and enhance the fundamentals of heat transfer. The experiments are relatively simple; they are designed to demonstrate the applications of the basic fluid and thermal science principles and to provide a more intuitive and physical understanding of these disciplines. The objective is also to introduce a variety of modern and classical experimental and diagnostic techniques, and the principles behind these techniques. This laboratory exercise also provides practice in making engineering judgments, estimates and assessing the reliability of your measurements, skills which are very important for any successful engineer.

  • Thermal Engineering Laboratory-II trains the students with principles and operation of thermal Engineering equipments.
  • The different modes of heat transfer like Conduction, Convection and Radiation phenomenon are studied with the help of the experiments and equipments available in the laboratory which are used in real time engineering applications.

The majour goal is to make use of the software to create ideas for genetrating the tool path and manual programms for the mechanical components in CNC machines.
Solidworks SOLIDWORKS Simulation is a powerful, easy-to-use design analysis and optimization software fully embedded within SOLIDWORKS® software. SOLIDWORKS Simulation is ideal for engineers who need analysis, but are not specialists in finite element analysis (FEA).
The goal of this course is to teach you how to use SOLIDWORKS Conceptual Design to create, capture and evaluate concept designs prior to physical prototyping and detail design.
IV Year Ansys ANSYS has a whole set of products for students to perform simulation of structural aspects of a single product or complex interactions of subsystems. It will help you understand how products would work not only in ideal environments but also changing users environments or during unexpected consumer usage.
By utilizating this software, students can understand in such a manner like how to create an optimized mechanical component design and performance of the component in real time enviroment to avoid the cost of product failure.
Hence, virtual engineering simulation is increasingly preferred for the mechanical engineering students, Knowing how to do it is an important engineering software skill.

This Library consist Books of with different titles like Design Engineering, Manufacturing and thermal Engineering core related Mechanical Engineering. Department library provides reference facilities for students. Here students can refer technical and advanced information for seminars and projects. Library holds books and journals related to different areas of Mechanical Engg. The BE project reports of Mechanical Engineering students form a part of the Department Library.
